is exam week here at College of Charleston, so I apologize for not keeping this as udated as I would like...soon enough this week (and the first couple of next week) will pass, and I can relax back home in charlotte hopefully clocking lots of saddle time.

To all who are in the same boat with exams, goodluck. When you get stressed out, because you know you will, ride your bike. Even if it's just for thirty minutes or so, do it; you will feel much much better afterwords. Anyway, goodluck with your studies and you will be hearing from me soon.

Although it got shut down about an hour into it, this thing was absolutely crazy and I believe we all straight threw the city off it's rocker.

We had guys in attendance from Charlotte, NC all the way down to Hotlanta and from everywhere in-between.
I think in total there were eleven teams of up to nine guys, so probably around 100 people

This race was full of crazy reckless antics, but who doesn't love dodging roman candles shot down the street in one of america's most historic cities?

Rumor has it that two people got arrested for the fireworks/open containers charges, two other people ended up in the hospital, one girl got hit by a car, and I talked to at least 6 people who said they crashed somehow. I actually crashed as well, full speed, t-bone style into Zach. I shoulder-checked the asphalt and it left me with a blown out front tire and some sweet road rash on my knee; Zach knocked his hip pretty good and twisted his fork. But all that aside, here's a fact: the police station received 17 complaints in a 20 minute time period; like I said, we did some work..

The trick to this particular race was splitting your guys into multiple teams so you could get shit done on multiple fronts.

After the St. Phillips cemetery checkpoint, which was a full-team checkpoint, we sent one of our guys, Kip, on a obscure photo mission all the way to James Island for 150 points, while another two man team, with columbia local Nate Puza, focused on the close photo missions. Nate's two man team scored 430 points on photos alone before the race got called. Another one of our guys collected 55 to-go menus from the local spots for the most to-go menu challenge, beat that. Zach Mallard, Pete, and myself ran the actual checkpoints race and made it through to the Eastbay Playground checkpoint, and actually won the Wheel of Death competition with 15 laps just before it got called. I think the general consensus of everyone in the end was that we wanted to finish out the race, regardless of the negative police interaction.

But reluctantly, we all said screw it and just went to the after party at Ed's place. Overall the party was pretty fun. I got the feeling that a lot of the racers didn't end up showing, but it's cool, we still burned threw three kegs. At nine, we headed across the street from Ed's for some sprints. The sprints were going off pretty good; in one of the heats, the guys from Charlotte took first, second, and third out of five. I got a bad start in my heat, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise cause around the second turn of the mile loop the guy two riders in front of me got nailed by a car that blew through a yield sign. His name is Nate, and he's from columbia. He's going to be alright, but the paramedics that came to the scene said he might have a concussion and some possible back damage. After all that, we basically put an end to the nights events and went back to the party to give out all the schwagg raffle style and have a beer in honor of Nate. The DJ was happening for sure, the only downside was that he was upstairs in some backroom; so for all the party people outside, you couldn't really feel the music, but apparently the neighbors could because when eleven 'oclock rolled around, so did the cops. They shut down both the ride and the party that night, bastards. So the raffles were cut short, but word from Mr. Samford is that the rest of the kit WILL be raffled off by the spokecard numbers and people will be notified via internet if they win...So good luck to everyone, see you all at the next race.

...new LEADER frames here. The new trick track frame looks beastly, I'm serious. The drops on that bike are wicked thick; it looks tougher than my bmx bike. Aside from that, the 2010 Track frame is pretty legit as well...now which should I get?

It's crazy how far the boundaries of track bikes are being spread, and how quickly people seem to be doing it, almost like a goldrush or something...One thing I did notice however, in comparison to their parts in the MASH dvd is that this video really seems to be more sponsor driven, instead of based around having fun on bikes. I mean, I understand the grueling nature of a ride that intense, and that this was only a preview, but there wasn't a point in it that the riders looked even a little happy to be out there..but I suppose we will just have to wait for the full video release to see what's really up. I crashed a couple months back and bent the crank in far enough that it wouldn't clear the frame, but that was an easy enough remedy involving a vice and hammer...

But after another crash, the crank was done... So a few days ago I shelled out the $100+ for some new cranks with this ridiculous 22mm spindle...and I got some new "cool kid" bars made by Eastern... eh, I think it's lookin alright.. I'll try to put some pics up tomorrow of the complete build... I'm crashing.... work at 8:30 in the am..

By the way, if anyone has some creative solution for my road bike ish please share...thanks

"Well, I'm riding this road conversion with regular drops and I need the adjustability."

"Hold on, regular drops? That seems impossible."

"Well, I have to say, it worked pretty well before.."

"What? You filed out the drops to allow for more adjustment? Man you should bring that in, actually, you should probably just get a new frame..."

"Uh, no thanks I'll check somewhere else"

...I know it has been a while since I have put any new material up, frankly it is because my bike is out of order and has been for the past couple of weeks and it's got me feeling out of true...

At the end of last month's CM, one of the guys we rode with informed me that my chain seemed pretty loose. I hadn't really thought about it, but after his mentioning I did the measurements and it was definitely time for a new one. I figured, since I was currently running a 3/32 drivetrain and had been meaning to switch to an 1/8 for a while now, that I would go ahead and do it all at the same time... I decided to go with a half-link chain, Luther's suggestion, which I got from the shop on park, and I already had the 16t cog I was going to need, so all that was left was a new chainring; which I found at eighthinch.com, and I even got a new seat...but...

...Long story short, more than two weeks have gone by and I'm still waiting on parts while my bike is in pieces in my garage...I just don't know what to do with myself....

...well I hate to do the woe is me bit again, but yesterday my chainring came in. After its' installation I grabbed that new halflink chain which is made by Stolen Bike Co., a bmx company, and I thought it was pretty cool until I tried to put it on. Then came my realization that, due to a bmx bike's smaller wheels, it's chain stays are shorter which makes it only rational to have a chain that is shorter than a track chain, about four inches shorter to be exact...fml

...So this is the plan.. I am trying to organize a small group ride, with a tentative date set for this saturday May 16th...

We will start in the parking lot of REI pineville. However, this is in no way, shape, or form a ride intended for, or sponsored by REI or it's employees. Their lot is simply an easy place to meet with ample, safe parking.

The plan is to pull out of there around 1:11 pm or so and take the back roads out by sam's club and work our way towards pineville/matthews road where we will pick up the NC Greenway system, and ride it all the way out to it's end at Rea Road right by Trader Joes, where we'll take a little pit stop and maybe grub a little...

After some grub, we'll head back and enjoy the pretty greenery the whole way back...

The purpose of this ride is to enjoy a swift ride in the woods, one of nature's purest forms, fixed...
